Upon Reaching Gateway of India

Visit: Gateway of India
The Gateway of India is a big monument in Mumbai, India. It was built in the early 20th century to remember when King George V and Queen Mary came in December 1911. It's an important symbol of India's past when it was ruled by Britain. It was where important British people came in and out. When India got independence, it was where the last British soldiers left from in 1948. Now, it's a famous place to visit and learn about Mumbai's history.

Visit: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus
Built in 1887 to honor Queen Victoria's 50 years as ruler, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is a famous train station in Mumbai, India. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site with beautiful design and colorful windows. Lots of people visit it to see its historic beauty.

Drive Past: Bombay University
The University of Bombay was started in 1857, making it one of India's oldest and best universities. People in Bombay asked the British government to start it, taking inspiration from the University of London. The famous Rajabai Clock Tower, finished in the 1870s, is the university's library. It was paid for by a local businessman named Premchand Roychand and named after his mom, Rajabai. Today, the University of Bombay is a big and important place for learning, reflecting Mumbai's smart and cultural background.

Drive Past: Bombay High Court
The Bombay High Court was started in 1862 under a law called the High Courts Act of 1861. It's one of India's oldest and most respected courts. Queen Victoria made it with a special document called Letters Patent, making it one of three important courts in certain cities. The High Court building is in Mumbai's Fort area and has a special style called Early English Gothic Revival. It has statues of Justice and Mercy on it. Building started in 1871 and finished in 1878. Today, the Bombay High Court is an important part of India's legal system and a place where people can learn about Mumbai's history and culture.

Drive Past: Marine Drive / Queen’s Necklace
Marine Drive is a beautiful 3-kilometer-long walkway in Mumbai that follows the curve of the natural bay. It's also called the Queen's Necklace because of the pretty string of lights that look like pearls at night. The area has special Art Deco-style buildings that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. With the Arabian Sea in the background, Marine Drive feels like a smaller version of Miami. People can take a relaxing walk, admire the lovely buildings, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of this popular Mumbai spot.

Visit: Gandhi Museum
For 17 years, Mani Bhavan was where Mahatma Gandhi worked in Mumbai. He led many movements from there, like Non-cooperation, Satyagraha, Swadeshi, Khadi, and Khilafat. Now it's a memorial looked after by the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi. Inside, there are pictures, books, and things that belonged to Gandhi, like his spinning wheels and the simple bed he slept on. The museum also has letters Gandhi wrote to President Roosevelt and Hitler. In 2010, President Barack Obama became the first important international visitor to tour Gandhi's room at the Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya in 50 years.

Visit: Hanging Gardens
Pherozeshah Mehta Gardens, often called the Hanging Gardens, sit on top of Malabar Hill in Mumbai. They offer amazing views of the sunset over the Arabian Sea. These gardens were made by Ulhas Ghapokar in 1881. They were cleverly built to hide the main water tank and have hedges shaped like different animals. If you look at the pathway from above, you can see it spells out the initials PMG in fancy writing..

Photostop: Dhobi Ghat
Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat is a famous laundry place in Mumbai, India, where washers, called "dhobis," wash clothes and linens from hotels and hospitals. It's been open since 1890 and you can get there easily from the Jacob Circle monorail station. "Dhobi ghat" is a term used all over India for places where many washers work, and the Mumbai Dhobi Ghat has inspired similar places in other parts of southern Asia.
